Safe Operation of a Chainsaw Course

Learn how to safely operate a chainsaw at this full day course delivered by All Skills Training and Wycheproof Community Resource Centre.

The course will cover:

- First aid requirements

- Correct PPE required

- Identifying all parts of a chainsaw

- Demonstration of stripping & assembling a chainsaw

- Mixing 2-stroke fuel

- Correct oils to use & how to oil it

- Refuelling

- Chain tension

- Daily checks

- Hand tool use (wedges, hammer, axe, combination tools)

- Stresses in timber (compression & tension)

- Cutting techniques

- Kickback dangers

- Plan of cuts

- Physical demands of operating a chainsaw (e.g. fatigue, heat stress, manual handling)

- Troubleshooting

Participants must be a minimum age of 16 and need to be able to physically kneel on the ground and handle a chainsaw.

Participants are welcome to bring their own chainsaw provided it is operational and safe to use, or use a provided chainsaw.

This course is suitable for people who do not necessarily require a national ticket, but do require training in the safe operation of chainsaws.
