A Mount of Prevention

mount of prevention.jpg

A Mount of Prevention is a primary prevention project that aims to prevent family violence and violence against women. It is a 12-month project funded by the Victorian Government's Office of Prevention and Women’s Equality and aligns with Safe and Strong, the Victorian Gender Equality Strategy.

Importantly a Mount of Prevention is your project. A project for the whole of community and offers local residents genuine opportunities to learn about what causes violence against women and how to set in motion community change to prevent violence against women.

Primary prevention is a means of social change and it requires all kinds of individuals, families, groups, clubs and organisations to get involved and learn more about the underlying social conditions that cause family violence, violence against women and gender inequality.

For more information or to get involved in the Mount of Prevention advisory group, contact project officer Alan Thomson by emailing WCRCProject1@wycheproof.vic.au or phone 0458 733 866.

Wycheproof Community Car

The launch of the Wycheproof Community Car in November 2016.

The Wycheproof Community Car Project was established to meet a critical need for flexible transport to and from out-of-town medical appointments. Located 96kms west of Swan Hill and 135kms north of Bendigo, Wycheproof residents are disadvantaged in terms of their rural location. The Community Car is aimed at reducing the levels of social isolation, anxiety and depression felt by some of those in need of assistance when unable to transport themselves.

The Community Car is available to anyone living in Wycheproof or Nullawil who is unable to access transport to a non-urgent medical appointment. Not only is it a flexible and supportive "door-to-door" service, it is extremely cost-effective, with all trips over 100kms eligible for the Victorian Transport Assistance Scheme rebate.

The Wycheproof Community Car is powered by a small but dedicated team of volunteer drivers and carers who are able to support the unique needs of individual clients. Each volunteer driver has been through an induction process and holds their First Aid qualifications and current Police Check.

The car is supported financially by dozens of generous local clubs, organisations and businesses. Without the initial community fundraising effort in 2014 and the support of funding bodies, Wycheproof would still be without a Community Car.

For more information on the Community Car or to register your interest in becoming a volunteer driver contact WCRC on 5493 7455 or e-mail mwcrc@bigpond.net.au

Local Drug Action Team

Wycheproof-Sea-Lake-Drug-Action-Team

Wycheproof and Sea Lake have joined forces to establish a Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) in an effort to prevent alcohol and drug related harms within the community.

The team is one of 40 LDATs to be funded across Australia under one of the most recent rounds of the Federal Government and the Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s $298 million program.

Wycheproof Community Resource Centre and Sea Lake Neighbourhood House are leading the project in partnership with a number of other key community organisations.

By working on the ground, our community partnerships will deliver evidence-informed social change activities that help prevent harm from alcohol and other drugs.

If you would like to be involved in the WaSL LDAT please contact Averyll at WCRC on 5493 7455 or Kellie at SLNH on 5070 1448.

Wycheproof fruit fly eradication project

The Wycheproof Fruit Fly Eradication Project was established in 2018 to address the rapid spread of Queensland Fruit Fly (QFF) in the local community.

QFF is an insidious pest that lays its eggs in a wide range of host fruits, including stone fruit, tomatoes, citrus and grapes. These eggs become maggots within the fruit, spoiling the fruit and making it inedible.

The project to date has included the delivery of free fruit fly traps to every residence in Wycheproof and surrounds, community education sessions and hands-on workshops.
