The Good Read

With the Buloke Library Service now up and running, Wycheproof Community Resource Centre is excited to bring you a regular dose of literary inspiration right from the shelves of your local library branch.

Every fortnight, we shine the spotlight on a book and author that can be found right here in the Wycheproof collection, and comes personally recommended by our library officer Chris Gillis. We hope it will inspire you to make the most of your library membership and explore our wonderful new collection.

The library is open from 10am - 2pm Monday or Thursday at WCRC (280 Broadway, Wycheproof) - if you haven't already, be sure to call in, check it out and say hi to Chris!

Atonement - Ian McEwan

One of Great Britain’s most treasured writers is the subject of this week’s spotlight. Ian McEwan has won the Man-booker prize once, and been shortlisted a further five times during a career that has impressed book hounds and cinephiles (most of his novels have been adapted into well regarded Hollywood films) alike. Atonement is set in England over the course of a life time, beginning in 1935 at the protagonist’s parent’s country estate, as the young woman recounts and comes to terms with a terrible sequence of events ending in a terrible accusation that leaves a young man in prison and a family torn apart.

If you are interested in reading further into Ian McEwans novels, consider placing a hold on either Nutshell or On Chesil Beach. Both of which can be found on-shelf at the Donald library.
