With the Buloke Library Service now up and running, Wycheproof Community Resource Centre is excited to bring you a regular dose of literary inspiration right from the shelves of your local library branch.
Every fortnight, we will shine the spotlight on a book and author that can be found right here in the Wycheproof collection, and comes personally recommended by our librarian Chris Gillis.
We hope it will inspire you to make the most of your library membership and explore our wonderful new collection.
The library is open from 10am - 2pm Monday or Thursday at WCRC (280 Broadway, Wycheproof) - if you haven't already, be sure to call in, check it out and say hi to Chris!
The Good Read
THE BLIND ASSASSIN - Margaret Atwood
This week the spotlight is on one of the most prominent female voices in 21st century literature.
Her stories have leapt off the page and into popular culture through recent TV adaptions of The Handmaids Tale and Alias Grace. Her novel The Blind Assassin won the Booker prize in 2000, and with such pedigree it is this week’s Good Read.
Fans of fast-paced and plot-driven books might want to give this one a miss, but for those that enjoy slow burning, sprawling and multilayered narratives this novel comes highly recommended. Spanning a great swathe of the twentieth century, the story explores the relationship between two sisters through the prism of love, loss, secrets and betrayal.
Atwood’s novels ‘Hag-Seed’ (2016) and ‘The Handmaids Tale’ (1985) can also be found on shelf at the Wycheproof Library.
