The Good Read

With the Buloke Library Service now up and running, Wycheproof Community Resource Centre is excited to bring you a regular dose of literary inspiration right from the shelves of your local library branch.

From this week, we will shine the spotlight on a book and author that can be found right here in the Wycheproof collection, and comes personally recommended by our librarian Chris Gillis.

We hope it will inspire you to make the most of your library membership and explore our wonderful new collection.

The library is open from 10am - 2pm Monday or Thursday at WCRC (280 Broadway, Wycheproof) - if you haven't already, be sure to call in, check it out and say hi to Chris!

The Good Read

This week the spotlight is on the American author Donna Tartt.

A former classmate and close friend of Bret Easton Ellis, she is perhaps best known for her Pulitzer Prize winning novel ‘The Goldfinch.’

I’m instead going to recommend that you check out her first novel ‘The Secret History,’ an inverted murder mystery, wherein the 'whodunit' is solved on the first page and the reader is left to piece together the ‘why.’

Set at a New England college campus and steeped in classic Greek Mythology and philosophy, ‘The Secret History’ (1992) is an impressive debut novel from an author that would later be included in Times Magazines ‘100 Most Influential People’ list in 2014.

Her novels ‘The Little Friend’ (2002) and ‘The Goldfinch’ (2013) can also be found on shelf at the Wycheproof Library.
