Shining the spotlight on local volunteers

Wycheproof Community Resource Centre was abuzz on Wednesday, May 30 as local volunteers gathered for the 2018 National Volunteers Week morning tea.

The morning tea has become an annual tradition in recent years and, according to WCRC manager Averyll Loft, is a fantastic opportunity to shine the spotlight on the generous contribution of local volunteers.

“The contribution of volunteers to the Resource Centre and to our community as a whole is absolutely invaluable,” WCRC manager Averyll Loft said.

“We all know that volunteering can be a thankless task at times, so we feel it is important that we have a dedicated event to acknowledge those who continue to give up their time for the benefit of others.”

Volunteers enjoyed a morning tea and were presented with a certificate. They were also encouraged to share the reason they volunteer.

Ms Loft said the answers summarise the selflessness of local volunteers and their love for their community.

“I like to help the community that I have lived in all my life – it’s a great place!”

“It’s important for the continuation and growth of our community.”

“I enjoy meeting and caring for the community of Wycheproof.”

“In a small, older community it is important to give something back and to help where necessary.”
